AIRPORT TRANSIT VISAS (ATVs)
It is recalled that only nationals of certain "sensitive" countries (see Annex 3) are subject to an ATV. The holder of a V.T.A. may not leave the international zone of the airport through which it passes.
EXAMPLE 1 - SIMPLE VISA
Type of visa: ATVs the identification code A.
The VTA gives simple access to only one country France in this example).
The validity period is calculated from the date of departure (eg 04.12.93) the term is fixed by adding a period of grace of 7 days if the visa holder postpones departure.
ATVs do not qualify for residence, the "stay" must be crossed out with XXX.
EXAMPLE (2A) - DOUBLE ATV (valid for one country)
ATVs airport transit for both return.
The duration of validity is calculated as follows: date of the return journey + 7 days (in the example shown: return date 03.01.94).
If transit is provided by a single airport, the "valid for" is supplemented by the name of the country (example 2a). If transit is exceptionally be done by 2 different Schengen countries on the outward and return journeys, is marked "Schengen States" (see Example 2b below).
EXAMPLE (2B)
The heading "valid for" is supplemented by "Schengen States" to allow the transit through two airports situated in two different countries.
EXAMPLE (3) - MULTIPLE-ENTRY (must be an exceptional case)
In the case of multiple ATVs (allowing several transits) the term of validity is calculated as follows: date of first departure + 3 months.
Same rule as for the VTA double filling the heading "valid for".
TRANSIT VISA
EXAMPLE (4)-SIMPLE TRANSIT
Type of visa: transit visa bears the identification code B. It is recommended to add the word "TRANSIT".
The validity period is calculated from the date of departure (eg 01.01.94). The term is fixed as the date of departure + (5 days) + 7 days (deductible if the visa holder postpones departure.
The duration of stay may not exceed 5 days.
EXAMPLE (5) - DUAL
Period of validity: when the date of different transit journeys is not known, which is usually the case, the term of validity is calculated as follows: date of departure + 6 months.
The duration of stay may not exceed 5 days in transit.
EXAMPLE (6) - MULTIPLE
The validity period is calculated as for double transit (eg 5).
The duration of stay may not exceed 5 days in transit.
SHORT STAY
EXAMPLE (7) - SHORT STAY SINGLE
Type of visa: a short stay is identified by the code C.
The validity period is calculated from the date of departure (eg 15.03.94). The term is fixed as the date of departure + duration of stay + 15 days free.
The duration of stay may not exceed 90 days per semester (here, for example, 30 days).
EXAMPLE (8) - SHORT STAY MULTIPLE
The validity period is calculated from the date of departure + 6 months depending on the evidence provided.
The duration of stay may not exceed 90 days per semester (example here, but the duration may be less). The length of stay is that the cumulative duration of successive stays. It is also based on the evidence provided.
EXAMPLE (9) - SHORT STAY FOR CIRCULATION
This is a short-stay visa with multiple entry for a term of validity exceeding 6 months: 1, 2, 3 years, 5 years in exceptional cases (VIP). In the example shown here the validity is 3 years.
Same rules as in Example 8 for the duration of stay (90 days).
Limited territorial validity (LTV)
EXAMPLE (10) - SHORT-STAY LTV VISA, ONE COUNTRY
In this example, the territorial validity is limited to one country France.
The short stays are identified by the code C (in the same way as Example No. 7)
EXAMPLE (11) - SHORT-STAY LTV, LIMITED TO SEVERAL COUNTRIES
In this case, under the heading "valid for" is to be completed:
- By country codes for which the visa is valid (Germany D, Austria: A, Belgium: B, Denmark: DK, Spain: E, Finland: FIN, France: F, Greece: GR, Iceland: IS, Italy: I, Luxembourg: L, Norway: N, Netherlands: NL, Portugal: P, Sweden: S. In the case of the Benelux countries: BNL).
In the example shown, the territorial validity is limited to France and Spain.
- Or by the words "Schengen States" followed in brackets by the minus sign and the codes of the Member States for which the visa was not valid.
In the example shown here the validity is limited to the territory of all Member States applying the Schengen acquis skip to the territory of France and the territory of Spain.
EXAMPLE (12) - TRANSIT LTV VISA, ONE COUNTRY
The transit visa bears the identification code B under the heading type of visa.
The territorial limitation in this example for France.
ACCOMPANYING PERSONS
EXAMPLE (13)
In this case, a passport is on one or more children and in exceptional cases, a spouse.
If one or more of the children reported in the travel document are covered by the visa, we add to the "passport number" after the number nX + (n is the number of children) + Y (if a spouse scope on the passport). In this example (short stay single entry, duration of stay 30 days) the visa is issued for the passport holder, 3 children and spouse.
VISA ISSUED IN REPRESENTATION
EXAMPLE (14)
In this case, a visa is issued by a consular post of a Schengen State representing another Schengen State.
In this case the "Notes" is to be completed by as R followed by the countries for which the visa was issued.
The codes used are as follows:

In the example this is a case where the Belgian Embassy in Brazzaville has granted a visa on behalf of Spain.
