الدرس الثامن
جمع الأسماء:
توجد عدة طرق لجمع الأسماء. ولكن الطريقة الأبرز والأكثر شيوعاً في جمع الأسماء هي إضافة s للمفرد مثل:
boy / boy + s = boys
(أولاد)
لكن هذا لا ينطبق على جميع الحالات.
فإذا كان في آخر الاسم المفرد ch , sh , ss , o , x (وهي يطلق عليها الصوت الأزيزي)، أضفنا إليها es مثل:
branch / branch + es = branches
(أغصان)
* إذا كان آخر الاسم y وقبلها حرف صامت قلبنا الـ y إلى: i وزدنا es مثل:
lady / ladi + es = ladies
(سيدات)
* وإذا كان آخره حرف f قلبنا الـ f إلى v وأضفنا عليه es مثل:
leaf / leav + es = leaves
(أوراق شجر)
كما أن هناك كلمات تبقى على حالها في المفرد والجمع مثل:
deer= غزال = غزلان
sheep = خروف = خرفان

uncle (عم أو خال)

cousin (ابن أو ابنة العم أو الخال أو الخالة)
ويسمون زوجة العم aunt وكذلك زوجة الخال.
